Hey, Monicz here....
Well, I'm supposed to blog abt my visit to the old folks home....
Firstly, its my first time ever visiting an old folks' home. So, i had no idea wat to xpect and i was quite nervous about how to behave there.
When the pertapis home came into view, i was quite taken aback(with shock).i had imagined a totally different setting. We took the packs of food we had brought for the old folks and went to the womens' side first.
There, we had a mini(?) lecture by the guide. Even though, i found that he was repeating stuff, i learnt wat to say and not to say to the old folks so as , not to hurt them.He told us not to ask them why they were there and i obeyed.
Finally, we were allowed to visit the old folks and interact.I talked to some of the old folks and they seemed quite happy to have someone to listen to them.when it was time to leave them, i hugged almost all of the old folks and bid farewell.
Then we went to the Mens' side and chatted with a few who could converse in English. We met this old folk who was involved in the war with the Japanese and he was sharing some of his experiences. It was qiute fun talking to him.
After the visit, I'm actually looking at my parents in a totally new perspective. I will never ever let my parents live in a home. After all those they have done for me, they definitely deserve something more than spending their old age in a home.
The visit has made me realise that I can't take take the care and concern I get, for granted.
